NOTE 1: There are alot (about 100) pictures on this page... each image is a compressed JPEG between about 30 and 60 kbytes in size... if you have dial-up internet access it may take awhile for all the pictures to download and display... take a break and check back in 15 or 20 minutes
NOTE 2: The following pictures are roughly in chronological order...
Since they were taken by various people who did various things at various
times they are not strictly chronological but rather are grouped sortof
thematically (i.e. - training hike first, then Pinkham Notch in the morning,
hiking up the trail, entering the bowl, getting ready to ski, climbing
up the ravine, looking down from high points, skiing down, hiking back
down the trail, partying afterwords, the next day at Sunday River, and
finally in the airport getting ready to leave NH)... Also since it was
a massive job just to get these pictures scanned and loaded on to the website,
I didn't spend any time trying to crop them or change the colors, etc...
maybe someday I'll come back and improve some of them (computer image processing
can do some amazing things) but not now
On with the show...

"BE ICE SMART !!!"
For those who missed the signs, friendly Mr. Ski Patroller fills us
in on today's conditions and hazards
"We've already had two avalanches today."... "You probably saw the one
that just happened."... "If anyone had been underneath that they easily
could have been burried"... WOW !!! This is the real deal !!!!!
An Afternoon In The Bowl - April 15, 2000
Avalanche track in the center of the bowl and (much less distinct) on
the right
People continue to ascend right next to the avalanche track... "Lunch
Rocks" is seen to the right of center... where's the mystery sax player
hiding ?
"Our rock"... and it's lunch time... not to be confused with "Lunch

Left side of the bowl, the view from "our rock"
Starting the climb to "the top"... that's Laura taking on the bowl in
the very center of the picture
"The Big Rock" is on the left... due to the "easy-climbin' stairstepped
snow", it only took 5 or 10 minutes to climb that high this year (the previous
2 years it was more like 20 to 30 minutes)
Looking down from "The Big Rock"
Bob S. looks down "The Chute" before jumping in... Brian S. (second
climber down) leans against the 45+% slope
Bob S. in "The Chute"

way up there !!!

oblivion
